Our client is looking for a smart and seasoned director-level product management/marketing professional to lead the development and execution of business and product strategies for a number of their online products. This position reports to the Vice President of Product and may have multiple direct reports. In this role, s/he will be the champion for his/her product(s) and will lead a team of product managers to drive their products forward quickly. The right candidate will have the opportunity to be responsible for all aspects of the business, including leading the definition, design, development and implementation of features, functionalities, and/or content offerings that maximize revenue, improve customer satisfaction and enhance the value of each product’s brand. In addition, this position will be responsible for prioritizing continuous improvement of the product, working with the sales team to set rates, budgets, and goals and developing a product marketing strategy.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading a team of world class product managers to design innovative consumer features and functionality globally; includes hiring, retaining and growing high-performing team
- Working closely with the senior management and other product managers to define and execute against a strategic product roadmap for each product
- Building business cases and analytical support/insight for new business initiatives; this requires identifying and understanding key issues, quantitatively analyzing these issues, and communicating key insights and results
- Prioritizing roadmap of product areas and initiatives for development
- Driving product definitions which translate business needs, customer needs and technological capabilities into site features and enhancements
- Leading cross-functional teams to produce product specifications, establish milestones, and manage the development, implementation and marketing launch against goals
- Communicating product status, key issues and launch plans to key constituents across the STM organization including senior management, engineering, design, sales, PR, editorial and customer support teams
- Measuring product performance and identification of key levers of improvement – including design and analysis of relevant reports
- Monitoring the competitive landscape, identifying and leading relevant market, site and consumer research needs
Hiring requirements
- Minimum 8-10 years experience with at least 6+ years of product management in a leading Web-based consumer business preferred
- Proven ability to build teams and lead organizations in rapid growth environment; minimum 2+ years people-management experience leading a team of high-performing product managers
- Previous experience in strategy consulting, investment banking or brand management a plus
- Consumer-focused mind-set
- Solid understanding of software development process, preferably in Web-based environment.
- Demonstrated experience successfully developing and managing new product launches, including a proven ability to champion products throughout the lifecycle and drive to key decisions
- Sound business judgment and ability to build business case around a product or service
- BS/BA required, MBA preferred
- Excellent communication skills at all levels of an organization
